Social Events

The Chairpersons and the Organising Committee of the 1st International Congress on Earth Sciences in SE Asia have the pleasure to invite all registered participants to the following complimentary social events.


Icebreaker Party

An icebreaker party will take place on Tuesday, 14 November 2017 at 8.00 pm to get to know each other, meet the facilitators and learn more about the Congress details in a relaxing atmosphere with snacks and refreshments.

The venue of the party will be updated soon.

Night Tour

A guided  night tour will take place on Wednesday, 15 November 2017. Buses will pick up the participants from the recommended accommodation places and the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Residential College and subsequently will drop them to the city centre to walk in the night market, the SOAS Mosque, and explore the city of Bandar Seri Begawan which is the ASEAN City of Culture 2016-1017

Cruise in Brunei River

This cruise will take place on Friday, 17 November 2017. Busses will pick up the participants from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam after the lunch break and will drop them at Yayasan waterfront. From there we will embark in water taxis for a cruise in the Brunei River. We will see the Sultan’s fabled palace Istana Nurul Iman and afterwards we will be taken upriver into the mangrove. Depending on the weather and the tidal conditions we will be able to see proboscis monkeys and perhaps crocodiles in the river.

Please note that it is required to wear life vests during the whole cruise and to obey to all safety regulations instructed by the captain.


Important Note: 

The participants of this field trip (OR event)  must have an insurance which covers:

a) Basic health coverage,

b) Personal liability coverage and

c) Accident coverage.

Kindly please provide us a copy of your insurance to the Registration Counter upon your arrival.

Social Dinner - Closing Ceremony

A complimentary social dinner and the closing ceremony of the ICES 2017 will be held in the Mutial Ballroom of Radisson Hotel on Saturday, 18 November, 2017 at 7.30 pm. Entertainment will include musical performance and local cultural acts from the Brunei Music Society and other artists.
