Welcome to 1st International Congress on Earth Science
In South-East Asia
15 - 18 November 2017
Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is one of Asia’s Fastest Rising Universities, according to the recent Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings.
Relating its petroleum production to its size, Negara Brunei Darussalam (Brunei, the Abode of Peace) can be considered as one of the most Geology-dependent countries and hence, an ideal place for hosting this Congress. Its location (4.5o North of the Equator) perfectly connects the northern part of the world with the humorously so-called “down under” part, such as Australia and New Zealand. Brunei Darussalam lies in a strategic position linking Far East to Middle East countries and is almost equally located between America and Europe, aspiring to attract scientists from all over the world.
Brunei is an ideal meeting place for academic Earth Scientists and young researchers from all cultural backgrounds to connect, brainstorm, collaborate and share their ideas. Earth Sciences nowadays, deal with more subjects than the strict borders of what has been traditionally taught in general Geology. Areas like Engineering, Medicine, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Archaeology and many others integrate with various Earth Science disciplines for the in-depth handling of several trending problems. Managing environmental issues arising from the modern day lifestyle and its dependence on various unsustainable resources, are among the largest concerns of the scientists all over the world. Earth Sciences provide the essential knowledge for the optimum, sustainable and ethical use of Earth resources.
The 1st International Congress on Earth Sciences, in SE Asia envisage in taking a further step in Geosciences Congresses, by creating uniquely emerged, topic-related, sessions, which will be customised according to the submitted material. This will give participants the opportunity to select the most relevant sessions to their field of research, rather than getting lost in an overwhelming number of meetings. Highly respected keynote speakers will open these sessions. Poster presentations including ePosters, workshops, exhibits, and unconference discussions have been designed to interactively bring the Earth Science community closer.
It will be our pleasure and honour to welcome all interested contributors to the 1st International Congress on Earth Sciences, in SE Asia, in Negara Brunei Darussalam.
