On May 7, 2017, Computer Science lecturer, Dr Daphne Lai attended the ASEAN-IVO steering committee meeting at the Faculty of Engineering of Chulalongkorn University (CU) in Thailand. The main agenda for the meeting was to endorse the selection of research proposals to be awarded funding. This was in response to 2017 ASEAN-IVO Call for Proposal which opened some time in December 2016.
A total of 28 proposals were submitted, out of which three submissions came from Brunei. This was Brunei’s first participation with two submissions from UTB and one from UBD. Five proposals were selected based on prior evaluation from steering committee members. A project with leading PI from MIMOS, Malaysia which FOS Computer Science Associate Professor Dr Arosha Senanayake is a collaborator has been one of the selected proposals. This is an accomplishment as it is Brunei’s first time participation in the second ASEAN-IVO Call for Proposal. The details of the meeting can be found at this link
After the meeting, the steering committee members were invited to attend presentations given by the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering. This was followed by a faculty tour which included SDRL Laboratory, 3D Scan Space and NICT-CU Joint Laboratory.
