Sharing her recent Discovery Year experience, Siti Nur Afiqah Haji Abd Samad, an Environment and Life Sciences undergraduate student, highlighted that she has always had a passion for animals. The DY programme gave her the chance to learn more about the Equine Management industry. She was able to do this through an internship at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor Bahru, an opportunity she uncovered while researching equine-related courses in Brunei and Malaysia.
Completing this internship provided her with a full introduction to the world of Equine Management. This included general management basics, hands-on activities such as riding and training the horses, learning about horse behavior and nutrition as well as the treatment of minor injuries.
She reported that this introductory learning and practical experience in Equine Management has inspired her to pursue a Masters in this field to further develop her knowledge, so that she would be well positioned to pursue a career in this area.
