Faculty of Science facilitates series of research training workshops in collaboration with the American Chemical Society
Coordinated by Chemical Sciences academic Associate Professor Dr Mansoob Khan, the Faculty of Science recently hosted a series of collaborative research training workshops with the American Chemical Society. The first two workshops, held in December 2021 and March 2022, involved training sessions and panellist discussions aimed at enhancing the research environment at UBD.
The first workshop in the series entitled "UBD-ACS-CAS Resources and Initiatives that Support Universiti Brunei Darussalam in Scientific Research" was held on 15 December 2021. During the webinar, ACS also provided three months free SciFinder (Trial) and a training session involving UBD library, without any fees/charges. The webinar highlighted the importance of scientific resources in research and publication. Attending the webinar were PhD, MSc and BSc Final Year Projects (FYP) students of FOS, Faculty of Integrated technology (FIT) and Centre for Advanced Materials and Energy Studies (CAMES). Teaching staff of FOS, FIT and CAMES also attended this webinar.
The second workshop entitled "Accelerating Research with CAS SciFindern" was held on 23 March 2022. Provided for free by ACS and Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the workshop highlighted the importance of scientific resources in research and publication, especially SciFinder, the most comprehensive database for the chemical literature. It is a core research tool for chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, physics, environmental science, and other science and engineering disciplines. It contains a wide variety of content from journal articles to information on chemical structures, properties, and reactions.
The UBD-ACS-CAS joint workshop series will help to accelerate the research and publication environment in UBD as well as motivate young and new lecturers to conduct research using new tools such as SciFinder.
The Faculty Global Affairs Committee (FGAC) of FOS, UBD, headed by Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Mansoob Khan, is closely working with universities, scientific societies, administrative units, faculty, staff, and partners across the world. As part of its commitment towards the internationalisation of FOS, UBD, the committee includes global research, education, international scholars, global partnerships, and international students. It aims to transform the University's research, teaching, learning, ethos, and networks to be globally engaged and competent. Through FGAC, FOS is poised to become the nation's best transformative research and learning community, creating and supporting global leaders.
