Dean's message

Greetings from the Faculty of Science (FOS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam. I am pleased to share our faculty newsletter for January 2018. FOS continues to develop via research and academic activities of our staff and students, and we are excited to share these highlights with you. 1st International Congress on Earth Sciences in SE Asia organised by Department of Physical and Geological Sciences

On the 15th-18th of November 2017, the Faculty of Science organised the 1st International Congress on Earth Sciences, in SE Asia (ICES-2017). The event included 26 sessions, covering a broad range of Earth sciences. Approximately 200 professional Earth scientists, as well as international and local students participated in the event.

ASEAN Consortium on the Development of Functional Food based on Antioxidants

Dr. Hartini Yasin and Dr. Fairuzeta Ja’afar, from the Chemical Sciences Department, represented Brunei in this consortium held in Thailand as part of the 3-day Food ingredient Asia 2017 exhibition devoted entirely to food ingredients.

International scientists at FOS to study animal responses to climate change

Dr. Nasreen Peer and Dr. Nelson Marinda, from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa, visited FOS to work with Associate Professor Dr. David Marshall and graduate students. Their research draws from the natural high biodiversity of marine gastropods in Brunei.

FOS’ Computer Science students take part in Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme in China

Computer Science students, Siti Nurzahrah Emran and Shamsyuhada Rais, had the opportunity to develop their ICT skills and learn about the evolution of the technological industry in China.
