Smart Cloud Powered Energy Evaluation Platform for Hydroponic Farming: An Experimental Research

Abstract

Agriculture, the primary and oldest industry in the world is responsible for feeding billions of people around the world. Over the years agriculture has transformed into many forms, making things easier for farmers. With the integration of technology, we now have technology-driven smart farming, where agriculture task are automated. The primary concern of agriculture is that it acts as the main environmental polluter other than any industry with its requirements for land preparation, energy consumption, and use of pesticides and fertilizers. In this research, we focus on the energy consumption part because operating things in farms requires a massive amount of energy which will eventually result in greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental pollutants in the process of producing this energy. As such, as a clean and renewable energy source use of solar energy is becoming a booming trend nowadays. According to the latest research, the use of solar for smart farming is still in its infancy age. Thus, motivated by the fact that evaluating the solar energy generation and consumption for smart farming, we design a novel smart cloud-powered solar energy evaluation platform for smart hydroponic farming towards stem cutting propagation of tree species. This research is the first of its kind as to the best of our knowledge, no study has been conducted on stem cutting propagation with smart hydroponic farming.
