The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and the Forestry Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) have joined forces to launch an innovative Community Outreach Programme titled “Biodiversity Watch.

Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), recently represented the university at the prestigious 2023 China-ASEAN and the Belt and Road Nations University Presidents Forum and Education Exhibition.

Brunei’s forests and gardens are home to hundreds of snake species, but none have perfected the art of flying as well as the Paradise Tree Snake. Taking a leap of faith, they can glide with astonishing precision from tree to tree in pursuit of their lizard prey. Within fractions of a second they can double the width of their bodies to become essentially a flat, undulating airfoil. Who better to study this astonishing behavior in the Paradise Tree Snake and its relatives than Prof Jake Socha, the World’s expert on flying snakes.

A book entitled Chalcogenide-Based Nanomaterials as Photocatalysts, edited by Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Mansoob Khan of the Chemical Sciences programme, was published by Elsevier in April 2021.
